Michael Stich, who has been a director at The Bold and the Beautiful since the soap's debut in 1987, is retiring from the CBS drama. The Emmy winner's final episode reportedly aired on December 12.
Stich began his career as a camera operator on shows like Barney Miller, Soul Train, and the classic soap opera Capitol. He began occasionally directing Capitol in 1985 and took on a full-time directing position at B&B when the political soap was canceled in 1987. He has also occasionally directed episodes of The Young and the Restless under the name Mike Stich.
At B&B, Stich was usually the go-to director chosen to helm the soap opera's lush location shoots. He's credited for the remotes in St. Thomas as well as the drama series' location shoots in Venice and Portofino, Italy.
Michael Stich has earned several Daytime Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team category and took home the trophy as part of the soap's directing team in 2011, 2013, and 2015. He has also been nominated for many Directors Guild of America Awards and won in 1991, 1993, and 1994.
