Hot on the heels of the exciting news that Days of our Lives has been renewed for a 51st season comes word that the soap opera is getting quite a big behind-the-scenes makeover. Co-head writer Josh Griffith has exited, and associate head writer Ryan Quan will be taking his place alongside current co-head writer Dena Higley.
The NBC soap released an official press release this afternoon that states: "Days of our Lives is pleased to announce that staff writer Ryan Quan has joined co-head writer Dena Higley to form a new head writing team. Josh Griffith has left the show to pursue other projects and interests, and we wish him the best."
Ryan first started at DAYS back in 2008 as a writers' assistant, moved up to the position of scriptwriter, and then became an associate head writer for the series in 2011. Considering his long history with Salem, there's no doubt he has in-depth knowledge of the characters and their pasts.
Shortly before DAYS' 50th anniversary last year, the powers that be brought on Griffith and Higley to give the show a much-needed shot of energy to bring it through the golden celebration. The pair's material began airing in the fall of 2015 and brought the show increased ratings.
