Days of our Lives fans haven't had the chance to vote on whether or not they love Ximena Duque's DAYS alter ego, Blanca, because the character has yet to make her on-screen debut. But the actress was able to make her vote count -- in the United States presidential primaries, that is.
Duque, who's a well-known name in the world of telenovelas, registered to vote for the first time in January to raise awareness about the importance of civic participation and to help increase the number of Hispanic voters, reports Latin Times. The outlet estimates that 50,000 U.S. Hispanics turn 18 every month, meaning the Latino community has the potential power to decide elections.
"Many of our parents who came to the U.S. from Latin America, Europe, and the Caribbean didn't have the privilege to choose the person to lead their country, so it is our duty to get informed and vote for the candidate that supports our ideas, concerns," says the actress, who voted in the U.S. for the first time on March 15. "That's the beauty of being able to vote and decide for yourself."
As part of her efforts to raise awareness about Latino voting, Duque joined Telemundo's #YODECIDO campaign, which aims to inform and empower Hispanic voters nationwide.
