Hot on the heels of the news that Days of our Lives is searching for an actress to reprise the role of controversial character Valerie Grant comes word that the 50-year-old soap is looking to add more diversity to the show by casting another African American actress in a brand new role.
The NBC soap has released a casting call for a recurring character named Deanna who is described as a "25-30-year-old gorgeous, African-American female. Deanna is a confident, edgy, strong, intelligent female. She has overcome obstacles in her past that make her the strong independent woman she is today. In her chosen field, vulnerability is a liability so her tough exterior can sometimes make her hard to read. She is sexy and knows how to have fun and craves a little danger to keep things interesting."
As fans may recall, the description for Deanna doesn't sound too far off from the details released about Valerie, which stated, "Courage and perseverance are two character traits that people admire her for the most... and while her experiences might have hardened other people and made them cynical, Valerie has grown into a wise and compassionate person -- who still occasionally gets tripped up by her own mistakes."
