Drake Hogestyn (John Black) took to social media to make two big announcements, and, with apologies to Mr. Hogestyn, it would apier that 2018 is going to be a really good year for the fan favorite.
The Indiana native's first bit of news came in a social media post: he booked a role on the CBS primetime series Criminal Minds.
Hogestyn took to Twitter to share the news, writing: "As I 'pier' into this week...filming an episode of #CriminalMinds is on the Horizon."

Criminal Minds is a police procedural drama that follows a group of FBI agents set on catching criminals through behavioral profiling. The plot focuses on the team working cases and on the personal lives of the characters, depicting the hardened life and statutory requirements of a profiler. According to TV Line, Hogestyn is set to guest star on the Wednesday, March 14, episode of Criminal Minds as Senator Richards, who is described as a "powerful congressman and part of the D.C. elite."
In the second reveal -- and the one that might be of most interest to DAYS fans -- Hogestyn disclosed that he is sticking around for more fun and drama in Salem.

"It aPIERs [Days of our Lives] would like to contract #JohnBlack to stick around Salem a little longer," Hogestyn wrote. "[S]o, pier group...what do ya think?"
Hogestyn just marked his 32nd anniversary at DAYS. He made his first appearance on January 10, 1986. During that time, the actor hasn't made a lot of appearances outside of daytime. In fact, according to Hogestyn's IMDb page (which we admit isn't always 100% accurate), the Criminal Minds role is the actor's first non-daytime gig since 1993. Fans had initially worried that Hogestyn might be leaving DAYS, but the news of his new DAYS contract should calm those fears.
