There's nothing subtle about feisty Days of our Lives character Gabi Hernandez, and viewers can expect fireworks when she makes her explosive return to Salem at the end of the month: "Let's just say she likes to make an entrance!" shares portrayer Camila Banus with She Knows about Gabi's upcoming reappearance on the canvas.
As fans may recall, the character and her brother, Rafe (Galen Gering), skipped town and went into hiding back in August after their father, Eduardo (A Martinez), told them they were in danger. Banus laments that the timing of her character's disappearance couldn't have been worse.
"Things were just getting interesting," she jokes of her alter ego's departure. "Especially with Jake."
In fact, reuniting with Jake's portrayer, Brandon Barash, is one of the top reasons that Banus was happy to return to DAYS after having decided earlier this year that she needed a break from the NBC soap opera.
"Working with him really reminds me of why I got into this business in the first place," she shares. "We have so much fun together, even if it's a particularly tough or dramatic scene."
Good thing, because there's likely to be quite a few tough and dramatic scenes for Banus and Barash in the weeks ahead. DAYS head writer, Ron Carlivati, teases to Soap Opera Digest that Jake and Gabi's upcoming reunion is gonna be a super bumpy one.
"At the end of November, Rafe and Gabi return and we learn that the danger hanging over the family is no longer a threat," he previews, adding, "[Gabi] comes back thinking she can tell Jake the truth, only to find that he's found himself a new bed partner!"
Banus hasn't been able to share any further storyline information related to Gabi's return and the reveal that Jake has moved on -- with Kate, no less! -- but she does say that she is incredibly proud of playing this particular character and knows that DAYS is the perfect place for her to be right now.
"I think it's important for young Latino women to see someone who is as strong as Gabi, someone who goes out and fights for her place," she explains. "And there's not really a lot of that necessarily being represented out there right now."
