It's been more than six months since Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine) last appeared on the ABC soap. That, however, is about to change: Soap Central has learned that the long-time General Hospital favorite is headed back to Port Charles.
Charleson's return seems to be keeping in line with recently installed head writer Garin Wolf's desire to bring the Quartermaines back into the forefront.
"They're a cornerstone. I love them," Wolf told TVGuide in an interview earlier this month.
In August 2010, GH fans were saddened to hear that the 33-year veteran had been taken off contract. The news, however, did not come as a total surprise, since the actress's storyline had dried up, and her on-screen appearances had been almost non-existent. Charleson had wanted to break the news to her fans, but the story found its way into a popular soap magazine before Charleson was able to get the word out herself.
During her run on General Hospital, Charleson received four Daytime Emmy nominations. In 1980, 1982, and 1983, Charleson was nominated as Outstanding Actress, the original name of the Outstanding Lead Actress category, in which Charleson was nominated in 1995.
Another popular Quartermaine, Stuart Damon (Alan Quartermaine) is also rumored to be headed back to GH.
Charleson last appeared on General Hospital in November 2010. A General Hospital spokesperson was not immediately available to offer a first airdate, though Soap Central has since learned that Charleson will first air on July 27.
