Emmy winner Tyler Christopher (Nikolas Cassadine) announced that he will be returning to General Hospital later this year. The actor made the announcement during an event at this year's General Hospital Fan Club Weekend.
Christopher last aired as Nikolas in June, exiting the show amid reports that he and the show were involved in contentious contract negotiations. A report at the time said the actor was leaving for "personal reasons."
With Christopher out, GH hired Nick Stabile to take over the role of Nikolas on a temporary basis. Stabile's stint ended on July 19 when Nikolas turned up missing after a fall.
Christopher originated the role of Nikolas Cassadine in 1996. Earlier this year, Christopher won the Lead Actor trophy at the Daytime Emmys.
Christopher will return to GH in September, though it is unclear if he'll return to work then or if that's when he'll appear on-screen. GH has no comment on the matter at this time.
UPDATE (August 1)
Christopher took to Twitter to offer a bit of a caution to fans about the news of his return.
"Slow down [everyone] I said I THINK Sept. will b my return 2 #GH," he wrote about his Fan Club Weekend announcement. "Nothing official yet. Thanks for all the love 2day though. #Muchappreciated"
Sources tell Soap Central that the show wanted to reveal that Christopher was returning and had not anticipated that the actor would make an announcement at the GHFCW event. The sames sources also tell us that Christopher is already back on set filming.
