It's been an exciting few weeks for General Hospital star Anthony Montgomery (Dr. Andre Maddox). Hot on the heels of being nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category comes news that the talented star has joined the cast of Greenleaf.
From award-winning writer-producer Craig Wright, the OWN series uses breathtaking photography and opulent settings to delve into the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch, where "scandalous secrets and lies are as numerous as the faithful."
The Greenleaf family loves and cares for each other, but beneath the surface is a cesspool of greed, adultery, sibling rivalry, and conflicting values that constantly threaten to tear apart the very core of the faith that holds them together.
Montgomery announced the news that he had joined Greenleaf via social media, writing: "Excited to go from the whirlwind of the Daytime Emmys to recurring on Greenleaf. Again it felt like a homecoming because I got to work with two men I love and respect, Lamman Rucker (who I've done two movies with) and the incomparable Keith David."
As fans may recall, Lamman Rucker is also from the soap world; he played All My Children's Garrett Williams in 2005 and As the World Turns' T. Marshall Travers in 2003.
Greenleaf has made headlines recently for a little behind-the-scenes drama: Pastor Lester Eugene Barrie and screenwriter Shannan Lynette Wynn came forward this past April and accused Oprah Winfrey of stealing their idea for the series. The pair claim they met with Winfrey's team at OWN in fall 2014, pitching a series entitled Justice & Glory that features the exact characters and plot points as Greenleaf. Barrie and Wynn are asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages. Winfrey's team, meanwhile, has yet to address the lawsuit.
News about which character Montgomery is scheduled to play on the Southern series has yet to be announced, but fans can watch for his appearance this August, when season three of Greenleaf hits televisions screens across the country.
