General Hospital fans will be treated to a blast from the past next month when Brad Maule steps back into the shoes of Dr. Tony Jones, a beloved character who first came to Port Charles in 1984.
EW reports that in the episode scheduled to air in November, Tony's adopted son, Lucas (Ryan Carnes), learns that his birth father has been blackmailing his husband, Brad (Parry Shen). The unsettling news is difficult for Lucas to digest, so cue what can be assumed to be a gentle and guiding apparition of Tony, who isn't likely to make an in-the-flesh appearance, seeing as how he died of a rare strain of encephalitis back in 2006. (Bet hey, this is a soap opera, so a full-on return from the dead can't be ruled out completely!)
Maule originally took on the character of Tony, sometimes referred to as Anthony, in 1984. He played the role on contract until 2000 and then played the doc in a recurring capacity until 2006. News of his upcoming return first broke via a tweet sent out by Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine) earlier this month -- which was later deleted. The tweet read, "Look who was on the show today! Brad Maule! So good to see my old pal!"
In addition to his GH role, Maule played the role of Reverend Palmer on The Young and the Restless in 2004 and Dr. Abel on Passions in 2003. Some of his other credits include 7th Heaven, Christmas with the Dead, Broken Blood, Flutter, and Sleep No More.
UPDATE (November 9, 2019): After the airing of Brad Maule's return, Jackie Zeman (Bobbie Spencer) shared a message with fans on Twitter. Zeman thanked the GH fans for watching for so many years, and expressed "such gratitude for the good times."
