Leyla Mir joined the staff of General Hospital the summer of 2007. Her parents fled Iran during a period of unrest and settled in England where Leyla was raised. When she had an opportunity to enter General Hospital's training program to become a nurse, Leyla took it. She always had dreams or working in medicine with the hopes of one day becoming a doctor.

Leyla, along with several other young nurses, quickly developed a crush on sexy Dr. Patrick Drake. Patrick was involved with fellow doctor, Robin Scorpio and very much in love with her, but he balked at committing to starting a family with her. Realizing that Patrick was never going to feel the same about parenthood as she did, Robin decided to break things off with him. Patrick was hurt but resolved to move on. Leyla was more than happy to help him do so despite being warned that Patrick was very much on the rebound. Leyla ignored the warnings and started dating Patrick. Unfortunately while Leyla was falling in love with Patrick, Patrick was still very much trying to find a way to make things between him and Robin work out. Leyla was devastated and broke things off but found she just couldn't stay away from the handsome young doctor. She decided to rekindle things with Patrick, insisting that it would just be about sex but clearly that was easier said than done. Further complicating things was the announcement that Robin was expecting a baby. Instead of being turned off by the idea, Patrick found himself more fascinated by Robin than ever, not realizing that the child she carried was his. Leyla's jealousy got the best of her and she decided to use new hot new doctor, Ian Devlin, to make Patrick jealous but it didn't have the desired effect.
