The soap gods are gifting us big time this fall with the addition of yet another super talented daytime alum in the upcoming Power spinoff Power Book II: Ghost. Hot on the heels of the news that All My Children alum Debbi Morgan (ex-Angie Hubbard) is resuming her Power character Estelle for the drama comes word that the series has also cast One Life to Live alum Sherri Saum (ex-Keri Reynolds).
Deadline reports that Saum, who's also known for her role as Vanessa Hart on Sunset Beach, will be playing the role of Paula Matarazzo in the upcoming series that also boasts Mary J. Blige, Michael Rainey Jr, Naturi Naughton, and Cliff "Method Man" Smith.
Power told the story of James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a ruthless, intelligent drug dealer under the street name "Ghost," who wished to leave the criminal world to pursue legitimate business interests as a nightclub owner. St. Patrick aimed to balance these two lives while avoiding police capture amid a crumbling marriage and shifting economic alliances.
As Soap Central previously reported, Power Book II: Ghost will continue the dramatic stories of some of Power's well-known characters, picking up the narrative immediately following the first series' finale. Saum's character, Matarazzo, is the top investigator and right-hand of arrogant defense lawyer Davis MacLean (Smith) -- which means she'll likely be a major player in the season, especially as MacLean is rumored to maybe be instrumental in getting Tasha St. Patrick (Naughton) out of jail for the supposed murder of her husband, James St. Patrick/"Ghost."
Power Book II: Ghost is slated to premiere on Starz this September. Check out a teaser trailer below and let us know what you think in the Comments section at the end of the article.
Saum starred on Sunset Beach from 1997 to 1999 and on OLTL from 2001 to 2003. She went on to nab a starring role on The Fosters and has appeared on series like How to Get Away with Murder, Revenge, Code Black, and Roswell: New Mexico. She currently stars in the Netflix series Locke and Key.
Debbi Morgan is best known to soap fans for her work as Angela Hubbard on All My Children, but she has also played the roles of Harmony Hamilton on The Young and the Restless, Jennifer Tartaro on The Bold and the Beautiful, and Ellen Burgess on General Hospital and Port Charles. Some of her other credits include Boston Public, Charmed, and For the People, as well as the films Eve's Bayou, Coach Carter, and The Hurricane. She previously played the role of Power's Estelle in a recurring capacity from 2014 to 2020.
