Francesco Quinn (ex-Tomas del Cerro) died suddenly on August 5 from an apparent heart attack. Quinn, the son of Academy Award-winner Anthony Quinn, was 48.
Lt. James Royal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said that Quinn was walking from a store to his Malibu home with his son when he collapsed.
Quinn played The Young and the Restless' Tomas from 1999 through January 2001.
"He was such a wonderful man," Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) said of Quinn in a posting on her Facebook page.
In addition to his work on Y&R, Quinn is best-known for his role as a raspy-voiced soldier in the Oscar-winning Vietnam War film, Platoon. He recently lent his vocal talents to the role of Dino in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. On television, Quinn appeared on NCIS, The Shield, JAG, and 24.
An official cause of death has not yet been determined. Quinn's agent, Arlene Thornton, told the Los Angeles Times that Quinn died of a heart attack.
