It certainly is an exciting time for The Young and the Restless' Justin Hartley (Adam Newman). Hot on the heels of the news that his primetime pilot, This Is Us, was picked up by NBC and is now one of the most anticipated series for fall came news that the popular star and his longtime girlfriend, Chrishell Stause (Bethany Bryant; ex-Jordan Ridgeway, Days of our Lives; ex-Amanda Dillon, All My Children), are now engaged.
Fans have been chomping at the bit for more information on both his engagement and how This Is Us might affect his role on Y&R, and luckily the actor opened up about both during this week's Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press Tour. Here are few highlights of Hartley's chat with the press, courtesy of Michael Fairman.
On whether or not his This Is Us role will affect his gig at Y&R: "I'm going to have to do this for a little bit here. There's definitely a break [at Y&R]. I don't know if I can [do both shows]. I try to stay out of that, and gladly don't wear that hat. I'm on all three networks... I think if I remember correctly, when I talked to CBS about doing Y&R, they agreed to let me do [ABC's] Mistresses. When this came down the pike, my friend, Michael Rady, gave me the script and said, 'You've got to read this thing.' I knew I had to do it. I knew I needed to do everything I could possibly do to try and get this part. This show is so special. The episodes I've read are getting better, if that's possible. I'm in love with it, so I knew I had to do it."
On whether or not he and Stause have set a wedding date: "We don't have a [wedding] date. It just happened, but it will be some time in the next 10 to 12 years [laughs]. But it will probably be coming up in a year or so, probably. I proposed on one knee like you're supposed to. It was my right knee, and I was lucky enough to have her say, 'Yes.' We have sort of an inside 'thing' in our relationship that I sort of circled back to, and I think she got a kick out of that. Chrishell and I are fortunate enough because as actors, we have a lot of downtime, sometimes. So, you do a lot of traveling, but I thought, 'Let's do this where we live.' It was perfect."
