Just months after receiving her first Daytime Emmy nomination comes surprising news that Mishael Morgan (Hilary Curtis) will soon exit The Young and the Restless.
As first reported by TVSource Magazine, the CBS soap and Morgan failed to reach an agreement in contract talks. The show was reportedly hopeful that an agreement could still be reached, but a source tells Soap Central that Morgan made the decision to walk away from television's top-rated soap.
It's unclear if Morgan would reconsider any additional overtures from show -- or even if the show would reach out with another offer. Judging by fan reaction, however, there are two vocal factions: fans who are demanding that Y&R do whatever it takes to re-sign Morgan and those who are urging Morgan to bolt to a rival soap (with General Hospital being the soap most bandied about).
In what now seems an oddly prescient statement, earlier this year, Morgan, in discussing her Emmy nomination, expressed gratitude to her fans for keeping her on The Young and the Restless.
"I would love to thank the fans who have kept me on the show and kept Devon and Hilary going. They gave me the opportunity to be nominated. At the end of the day, in this genre, it all comes down to the fans and how much they love you and how much they support you and your character," Morgan told Soap Central. "I've seen some amazing, amazing actors walk on and off of this show, and sometimes it's just because their characters just aren't as popular, and it has very little to do with their abilities. So, I'm very thankful that the fans kept me on long enough that I was able to showcase what I can do."
Per show policy, The Young and the Restless does not comment on contracts. Morgan has yet to make any sort of comment and has not posted to Twitter or Instagram since June 1.
At this time, it is unclear how Morgan, who made her debut as Hilary in June 2013, will be written out.
