It's been awhile since fans of The Young and the Restless saw new material from their favorite soap opera, but as soon as new episodes come roaring back, viewers are going to find out the truth about the murder of A.J. Montalvo and how it will affect the lives of both Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and his father, Victor (Eric Braeden). As fans may recall, the last new episodes of the CBC soap opera revealed that Adam might have been the one who killed A.J., a secret Victor has been keeping in order to protect his son. But things may not be what they seem...
In a recent chat with Soap Opera Digest, Grossman opens up about Adam's inability to trust his father and his belief that Victor made the whole story up to protect himself.
"Based on all the dishonest stuff Victor has done in the past, Adam wouldn't put it past his dad to pull something like this, but at the same time, Adam is uneasy that Victor did have a lot of answers for what happened," the actor shares. "One way or another, Adam wants to get to the truth."
The problem is that if what Victor claims is true, then Adam is a full-blown killer -- and the revelation has the power to send him further to the dark side.
"I don't think he wants that to happen but there's always that potential," Grossman says of his character's future. "He just wants to know what really happened, and if it turns out to be true that Victor has been protecting Adam all of these years, he'll have to re-examine everything about his life. Victor covering this up so Adam wouldn't be emotionally crushed would be huge. If that's the case, it could lead to some kind of reconciliation with them."
But the same might not be said for Adam and Chelsea, because such huge and devastating news about Adam's past might send Chelsea running for the hills.
"I think Chelsea is more nervous about Adam uncovering something that could uproot his whole life," Grossman teases. "Adam is hoping Chelsea will be on his side, but I'm sure she's afraid of what this could mean for them."
Fortunately, viewers might not have to wait too much longer for the continuation of this storyline and others; new California filming guidelines were just released and soaps could be back in production as early as this week. Once that happens, Grossman looks forward to a little character growth for Adam, who just may lose the big chip on his shoulder.
"I love that chip on his shoulder," the actor declares, before adding, "I do like the ebbs and flows when the chip on his shoulder is not so big, but then resentment creeps in again. Still, there's always room for evolution because we don't want to see him brooding all of the time."
