In April, news broke that Steve Kent was exiting his position as Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony, where he oversaw the company's two soaps, Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless. Now, Deadline reports that Kent will have a new position as executive in charge of production at Y&R.
Kent held his previous position since 2007. In addition to his duties with the two daytime dramas, Kent oversaw the development of such Sony titles as Outlander, Nikola, and As If. The Sony Senior Executive Vice President position is being nixed at Sony altogether.
Kent has been with Sony since 1986 and has been involved with the production of such hits as Dawson's Creek and Early Edition.
Prior to working for Sony, Kent served as supervising producer on NBC's now-defunct soap Santa Barbara through the entirety of its nine-year run, from 1984 to 1993. Kent was also a producer for the CBS soap Capitol before Santa Barbara premiered.
Santa Barbara, which would have celebrated 40 years on the air this year had it not been canceled, made some soap news this week when General Hospital announced that Lane Davies would be joining former co-star Nancy Lee Grahn in Port Charles. Davies and Grahn famously played Santa Barbara's power couple Mason and Julia.
