They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and in Riverdale's case, neither does casting. The CW series needed to cast a young version of Hiram Lodge for flashback scenes and decided on portrayer Mark Consuelos' (ex-Mateo Santos, All My Children) real-life son Michael.
Consuelos' look-alike son has signed on to play the high-school version of his dad's character in the upcoming season's fourth episode, TV Insider reports. The episode, titled The Midnight Club, will be a subversive take on the John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club.
The Riverdale role will be the first acting gig for Michael, who's currently a junior at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. But it wouldn't be a surprise if more followed. After all, it's his family's business: not only is his dad an actor, but his mother is popular LIVE with Kelly and Ryan co-host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley Santos, AMC).
Speaking of Ripa, she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last October and revealed that her and Mark's teenage daughter Lola is loving her dad's role on Riverdale.
"I wish you could watch Riverdale with my 16-year-old daughter who's finally like, 'I cannot believe Dad is on a show that I actually watch,'" the soap opera alum shared. "So [Riverdale character] Veronica -- she's 16 also -- and she drinks mimosas at breakfast. My daughter's like, 'Dad never lets me drink mimosas at breakfast.' And I go, 'Yeah, because he's a real father, and that's a character on TV!'"
