Riverdale will make millions of All My Children fans happy with its latest casting news: Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley Santos) has been cast for a romantic story alongside her real-life hubby, Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo Santos).
Ripa, who co-hosts the daytime talk show Live! with Kelly and Ryan, reveals that she will be playing his character Hiram Lodge's secret lover.
"Hiram's mistress. 23 years of auditioning for a role I was born to play," she joked on social media. "Coming soon to the @thecwriverdale."
Entertainment Tonight reports Ripa's character, Mrs. Mulwray, is "confident and tough... she's a beautiful, icy, femme fatale who gets caught up in a conspiracy that's much bigger than she initially realized."
Consuelos joined the CW's take on the Archie comics in season two playing mobster Hiram, the scheming father of Veronica Lodge. His and Ripa's real-life son, Michael, was cast as young Hiram for season three of the series, which debuted on October 10.
"It's a family affair," joked Ripa, who recently reprised her role as AMC's Hayley alongside Pine Valley favorites like Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart), Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane) and Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Santos).
Ripa and Consuelos met while they were both working on All My Children back in the mid-90s. The couple, who played husband and wife on the ABC soap opera, married in 1996 and now share three children -- sons Michael, 21, and Joaquin, 15, and daughter Lola, 17.
Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8PM ET on the CW.
