Millions of girls fell in love with singer Jesse McCartney when he started crooning "Beautiful Soul" back in 2004, and many of his adoring fans hoped that the special lyrics were aimed directly at them. If actress Katie Peterson was one of them, then her wish just came true, because McCartney, known to daytime fans as All My Children's J.R. Chandler, just asked her to marry him.
People magazine reports that the former soap star proposed to Peterson on Friday during dinner with friends at CUT by Wolfgang Puck at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Los Angeles. The whole restaurant reportedly fell silent when McCartney dropped down on one knee to ask her to marry him, and everyone in the establishment cheered and gave applause when she said yes.
McCartney took to Instagram to confirm his engagement news, captioning a photo of him and his bride-to-be, "Locked it up."
As seen on Peterson's Instagram Story hours before McCartney's proposal on Friday, the couple recently celebrated their anniversary with a day of pampering that included manicures, pedicures, and a playful pose by McCartney, who stuck out his tongue during his hand massage.
"Anniversary Activities!" Peterson wrote on the post.
The actress also shared a photo of her engagement ring on Instagram, writing: "SEVEN YEARS... and also forever."
Jesse McCartney got his start in the entertainment business playing AMC's J.R. in the late 1990s. While playing Adam Chandler's son, the young actor rose to fame as part of the boy band Dream Street and later went on to establish a successful career as a solo artist. His discography includes the albums Beautiful Soul, Right Where You Want Me, Departure, and In Technicolor. After a four-year musical hiatus, McCartney dropped two singles in 2018, "Better With You" and "Wasted" -- the latter of which has a music video that is a parody on soap operas.
McCartney and Peterson have been dating since 2012.
