Patient 6 returns to Port Charles
Franco was startled to see a small blond boy standing next to his bed. He asked the child what he wanted. "You know what. You killed me," the boy said. Franco woke up and realized he had been dreaming. Elizabeth reassured him, though Franco explained that the dream had been quite vivid and real. Elizabeth wasn't surprised. She pointed out that people always agonized over a child's death, and Franco had only found out about Drew very recently. She thought that he should tell Jason, though Franco insisted that Jason would think that Franco might be hiding something.
Klein's thugs tracked Patient 6 to the bus terminal and cornered him, but the mystery patient overpowered the men quickly. He ordered one of the thugs to call Klein to advise him that they were heading back to Russia with Patient 6. The man did as he was told, and Patient 6 knocked him cold. He dragged both men to a nearby Dumpster, emptied their wallets of money, and took their guns.
Michael visited Nelle at the Crimson office. She remarked that he had seemed distant, and she wondered if she'd been cleared after Curtis' investigation of her. Michael admitted that he had something to talk about. "What did Curtis find?" Nelle asked. Michael asked if she recalled saying something to the police about not being a strong swimmer as the reason for not being able to save Zachary. Before Nelle could give a definitive answer, Michael showed her the article online that had been written about Nelle's gold medal in swimming. He asked why Nelle had lied to the police.
Nelle was annoyed and noted that Curtis' job had been to clear her. She emphatically told Michael that swimming in a pool was far different from the situation she'd been in with Zachary. She had been terrified of her fiancé's family. "I was trying to protect myself," Nelle concluded. Michael wondered if there were any other lies that he should know about.
Nelle felt attacked, but she agreed that it was probably just a reflex. She blamed her father but also herself. Michael reminded her that it was quite easy for people to find anything online, and she would get caught if there were other lies out there. "Something has to change," he told her.
Nelle called herself pathetic for always making the same mistakes. Michael said that he understood why she had always been defensive, and he told her that she was flawed, just like everyone else. He insisted that he wasn't perfect, either, after Nelle stated that he was. He compared her to Morgan and his habit of doing the same thing all the time. He explained that he had only wanted Curtis to make things better. They had gotten worse instead, so Michael would take Curtis off the case.
Curtis and Jordan were enjoying a meal at Kelly's and flirting with each other until Aunt Stella walked in. "Great," Jordan declared. Stella bumped into a woman she'd met and worked with at the hospital, and the woman knew Jordan also. Both Jordan and Stella had helped Trish with her father, who had suffered from dementia. Trish called the women her angels and thanked them profusely for their help.
After Trish left, Stella pointed out that Jordan's name hadn't been on the police report, and Curtis realized that Jordan had not wanted any credit, preferring to allow her underling to be recognized. Stella left without saying goodbye to Jordan. Curtis suggested that Stella and Jordan were not so far apart as they thought, since they'd both helped the same man. Curtis wanted Jordan to admit that she and Stella had something in common. Jordan reminded him that Stella hated her, but Curtis insisted that Stella was a good woman who knew how to hold grudges. He thought that eventually she'd understand his relationship with Jordan.
Nelle was appreciative of Michael's attitude and concern. Michael advised her that he wanted to move forward. Nelle left to splash her face in the ladies' room, and Michael placed a call to Curtis to tell him to drop the investigation. Curtis tried to argue, but Michael wouldn't hear of it. He just wanted it ended. Nelle stood close by but unseen and eavesdropped on the phone call.
Jason and Sam arrived home from New York City. Sam felt a need to take the time to allow everything that had happened to sink in. She also wanted to call Carly and Sonny to tell them the news. Upon questioning, Jason admitted that he had originally looked at the business because it had meant that Julian would have to sell it, but he thought it would be great.
Jason had a lot to learn, but he knew he would be able to do it. He continued that the best part would be working with Sam and having a legitimate business. Sam advised Jason that if he ever felt trapped, she wanted him to walk away. She wanted him to love his life. Sam wondered when they would check on Franco because she knew he'd been hiding something. Jason figured that if Elizabeth knew, then it couldn't be that bad, but he would get to the bottom of it.
Carly was at Sonny's, and they shared some kisses. Brick arrived, and after his usual flirting with Carly, she headed upstairs. Brick announced that Sonny had been under surveillance. He had found that Sonny's phones had been tapped, and he assumed it had been the Feds, though someone might have been able to copy the Feds. The equipment was very sophisticated. He thought it might be someone trying to find out who had been contacting Sonny.
Carly returned, Brick left, and Sonny told Carly about the conversation. He thought that there was nothing to worry about, and he didn't think that the family had to flee Port Charles. He wouldn't be able to conduct his business on the phone.
Elizabeth and Franco arrived at General Hospital for work. Stella walked by, and she and Elizabeth made small talk about a patient. Elizabeth introduced her to Franco. Stella mentioned how happy Elizabeth seemed. There was obviously more than a working relationship between Franco and Elizabeth, she teased. Elizabeth had to leave, and after hearing that Stella was a social worker, Franco asked how one might be able to find a death certificate.
Stella explained that death certificates were a matter of public record, and anyone could obtain one. Franco mentioned how the police, especially in Port Charles, didn't like him. He admitted to being acquainted with Jordan. Stella noted that no one was perfect, "least of all Jordan." She got on the elevator, and Franco rushed over to the computer at the nurses' station.
Franco did a search for a death certificate on the vital records site. He was unable to find anything under the name Andrew Frank. Stella bumped into Elizabeth and mentioned that while Franco was strange, she could see that he was "head over heels" when it pertained to Elizabeth.
Patient 6 was in Port Charles and sneaked into Sonny's darkened house. He looked around and picked up various framed photographs. Suddenly, he overheard a couple of guards talking about the house being on lockdown and checking around the property again. Patient 6 quickly departed through the same doors through which he'd entered.
Sonny and Carly met up with Jason and Sam at the Metro Court restaurant. Jason ordered Champagne. "You two are looking at the new owners of Derek Wells Media," Jason announced. "Soon to have a new name," he added. Carly and Sonny were shocked and plied the other couple with questions. Carly thought it was different, but she congratulated them. The couples chatted until Sam recalled that she had forgotten to sign a permission slip for Danny. She needed to get home quickly, but she would return.
Patient 6 knocked on Sam's front door. After getting no answer, he broke in. He shouted Sam's name several times. "Is anybody home?" he called. He picked up a leather jacket and had a flashback to putting the jacket on Sam and saying goodbye. He looked around and saw some toys, including a black motorcycle. He was overwhelmed and ran out onto the balcony. Just then, Sam walked in. Patient 6 watched her through the balcony window.
At the tenth-floor nurses' station, Franco searched online for Andrew Frank's death certificate, but nothing popped up. Frustrated, he hit a few more keys until Elizabeth walked up and advised him to ask the computer nicely. Franco quickly cleared the screen as Elizabeth asked what he'd been searching for. He mumbled that it would ruin the surprise, prompting her to assume that he'd been checking the forecast, which called for rain later that evening. Franco grumbled with disappointment because he had hoped to take the boys to a haunted maze, but Elizabeth thought it was for the best because Aiden wasn't ready. He conceded that she was probably right then admitted that he was still getting used to being a "pseudo stepfather" to her children.
Elizabeth assured Franco that he'd been doing great. She looked forward to the day when he was as sure of himself as she was, but he thought that she'd given him too much credit because he had a terrible track record. Franco warned her that it was inevitable that he would screw things up, but Elizabeth frowned. "You mean because of Jason?" she asked. Franco and Elizabeth walked to the snack area. He fed money into the vending machine as he told her that she hadn't given him enough credit because there were plenty of ways for him screw things up that didn't involve Jason.
Elizabeth knew that the truth about Jason's twin brother was weighing heavily on Franco's mind because he'd woken up in a cold sweat that morning. Franco tried to downplay the nightmare, but she believed that the secret had been eating at him. She promised that it would fade once he told Jason the truth, but Franco wanted her to promise that she wouldn't leave him. Surprised, Elizabeth wondered why he would think that, knowing how she felt about him. Franco was spared when he received a text message. It was from Scott asking Franco to meet him about an urgent matter. Elizabeth promised to let everyone know that he'd been called away on a family emergency.
In Griffin's office, Griffin thanked Father Corey for stopping by. Father Corey hoped that Griffin had gained some insight about his future in the priesthood. Griffin confirmed that he had made a decision then invited Father Corey to sit. After the priest was seated, Griffin promised that he'd thought long and hard about his vocation, and he'd realized the previous evening that he was no longer meant for the priesthood. Father Corey refused to accept that because he knew from their long talks what the priesthood had meant to Griffin. Griffin acknowledged that he'd had a calling for the church, but a lot of things had changed. Griffin acknowledged that he still had a lot of things to work out, but he'd had clarity about his role in the church.
Father Corey couldn't imagine what had transpired in one night to explain the drastic shift. Griffin confessed that he'd broken his vows, but he wouldn't change anything if he had to do it over again. Griffin was adamant that his feelings would not change, but Father Corey worried that Griffin hadn't thought things through. He implored Griffin to think of his parishioners, but Griffin's mind was made up. Griffin assured the priest that it hadn't been an easy decision, but it had been the right one. Father Corey was disappointed, but he wished that all his students were as honest with themselves as Griffin had been.
Father Corey wanted Griffin to be careful as he embarked on his new life then wondered if Griffin intended to follow the faith. He promised Father Corey that he would. Pleased, Father Corey advised Griffin to ask himself if he'd left the priesthood for the woman that Griffin had spent the night with and if he envisioned a life with her. Griffin looked thoughtful, but he didn't have an answer. Moments later, Griffin walked Father Corey to the elevator and thanked his mentor for all the guidance through the years. Father Corey smiled because he thought that Griffin was a fine man.
After Griffin and Father Corey shared a hug, Father Corey left. Elizabeth rounded the corner and was startled when she saw Griffin. She asked about his trip to Russia. He revealed that he'd found Ava, and she was back home safe. Elizabeth playfully asked if he intended to keep trying to save Ava's soul, but he shared that he had left the priesthood. Elizabeth was surprised but not shocked because she had sensed that he'd felt more than friendship for Ava. Griffin admitted that she was right, but he had no idea how to define the feelings he had for Ava.
Griffin and Elizabeth sat down on a bench as Griffin explained that his affair with Claudette had been a "lapse" on both their parts. He had cared for Claudette, but he'd deeply regretted what he had done. As they talked, Elizabeth realized that he wasn't ready to commit to Ava. "Exactly," Griffin answered. Scott noticed the drinks on the coffee table then suggested that she hire a maid. Ava carefully confirmed that she'd had a drink with a friend, but Scott pointedly looked at her robe then asked if the friend was still there. Ava became emotional as she insisted that she had thought that Sonny and Carly would notice that their son was in trouble and take Morgan back to the treatment center. Ava's shoulders sagged because she realized that it was pointless to explain, since no one believed her. She claimed that she had felt alone and down, so she'd turned to someone for fleeting companionship.
Scott promised that he didn't judge Ava, but he asked her to call him next time. Ava teased him about wanting to ask her out on a date, but Scott made a point of not confirming one way or another. However, he assured her that she could lean on him because he cared about her. Ava was touched, but she admitted that she wanted to be alone and hustled him out the door despite his sputtering objections.
In Jason and Sam's penthouse, Patient 6 picked up Sam's leather jacket then held it to his nose and inhaled deeply. He set it back down as he looked around the living room and saw Danny's toy cars and a motorcycle. Seemingly overwhelmed, he rushed out to the balcony for fresh air. Moments later, Sam entered. Patient 6 stood at the door and watched her. He was about to enter the living room when Jason arrived home. Patient 6 stepped back and eavesdropped on Jason and Sam through the door, which remained slightly ajar.
Jason greeted his wife with a kiss and suggested that they continue their celebration upstairs, but Sam pulled away and told him that they needed to go over the bills. Patient 6 tensed when she mentioned paying for Danny's sports camp. Jason assured his wife that it could wait. He pulled her into his arms and reminded her that they had some celebrating to do. Sam smiled then admitted that she couldn't remember the last time she'd been as happy as she was. Jason recalled their wedding a year earlier when she'd told him that she had spent most of her life learning how to fight for herself and that she hadn't been used to having a partner -- someone to trust and count on.
Sam was touched that Jason recalled her vows to him. Jason promised that he'd never forget how she'd told him that he hadn't taken away her independence; he'd made her more not less. He made his way to the door, looked back at the living room, and quietly left.
Later, Jason and Sam returned to the living room after showering and changing. Sam picked up her phone and saw a text message from her mother. Sam warned Jason that Alexis planned to stop by, but Jason objected because they were still celebrating. Sam explained that there was a problem with Kristina, but he pointed out that there was always a problem between Alexis and Kristina, so Molly should play referee for a change. Sam became distracted because she had a strange feeling of déjà vu, as if she had left something in one spot, but it had ended up in another. Jason suggested that she was preoccupied with becoming a media mogul overnight, but Sam smiled and reminded him that they were both media moguls.
A short time later, Alexis arrived. Sam greeted her mother, but Alexis was curious if Sam had talked to Kristina. Sam nodded then confirmed that she knew that Kristina was happy and was with Parker. Alexis wondered if Kristina had told Sam that she had dropped out of school and intended to move to Oregon with Parker. Sam's eyes rounded with surprise because her sister hadn't said anything about quitting school and moving. Alexis filled Sam in on Parker's dismissal, but she made it clear that she hadn't reported Parker's inappropriate conduct. Alexis was frustrated because Kristina refused to answer her calls or reply to her text messages.
Sam urged Alexis to give Kristina time because Kristina was in love with Parker. Sam believed that Parker had genuine feelings for Kristina, but Alexis disagreed because Parker wouldn't have let Kristina drop out of school and move away from her family if she had truly cared. Sam conceded that Alexis might be right, but Kristina needed to have an opportunity to make the relationship work. Sam admitted that the worst regret was the result of not going after the one you loved. Alexis thought it was easy for Sam to say because Sam was happily married with two children. Jason emerged from the kitchen and greeted his mother-in-law.
Alexis was surprised when Jason and Sam announced that they had bought Derek Wells Media. Alexis was happy for Jason and Sam, and she acknowledged that it had been the one decent thing that Julian had done. Jason admitted that it was an opportunity to give Danny and Scout a safe life, but Sam revealed that Diane had warned them that the FCC would monitor them closely because of Julian and Jason's past ties to organized crime. Alexis realized that Jason and Sam wanted to control the message in the press to avoid any unnecessary problems.
At the cemetery, Patient 6 approached Morgan's gave then sighed. He had hoped that he'd misheard Sam and her husband. Patient 6 had thought that Morgan had taken off the way that Patient 6 had when he had left the Quartermaines. He recalled how the Quartermaines had always talked about how he'd been lost, but he finally knew what it truly meant. "I lost five years," Patient 6 said as anguish filled his tone.
Patient 6 touched Morgan's headstone as he talked about going to Sonny's and seeing all the photographs. He'd been surprised by how tall Morgan had grown. "Now, you're gone," Patient 6 added. Patient 6 was desperate to know what had happened then mentioned that Morgan had been named after him. Patient 6's sorrow evaporated when he heard a noise behind him. He pulled out his gun then swiftly turned to face the intruder. Ava gasped with fright when she saw the gun, but Patient 6 recognized her and lowered the gun as he asked when she had returned from Russia. Ava's eyes rounded in recognition when she realized who he was.
Patient 6 thanked Ava for helping him in Russia. "You're welcome," Ava replied, but she admitted that it had cost her because she hadn't received her final treatment, and Dr. Klein had tried to kill her. She explained that a friend had rescued her from the clinic, and they'd flown home later that day. Patient 6 apologized, but she was curious how he had managed to make his way to Port Charles. He admitted that he'd had help, but he didn't elaborate.
Ava glanced at Morgan's grave as she asked if he'd been Patient 6's connection to Port Charles. Patient 6 nodded then asked if she'd known Morgan. Ava carefully revealed that Morgan had been her daughter's good friend. Patient 6 wanted to know how Morgan had died, but Ava was vague as she explained that there had been an accident. She assured him that it had been quick, but she acknowledged that Morgan had been troubled. Patient 6 wanted details, but she admitted that she wasn't comfortable talking about it. Patient 6 thanked her for her help then started to leave, but she was curious where he was going.
Patient 6 explained that he needed to find a place to lay low, so he could figure things out. Ava suggested that he stay with her, but he was reluctant. Ava insisted because she wanted an opportunity to prove to herself that she could do the right thing. A short time later, Ava invited Patient 6 into her apartment. She revealed that her brother had lived with her until recently, but she didn't elaborate. She suggested that Patient 6 take a shower and freshen up then added that he could help himself to her brother's clothes.
Ava started to go to the closet to fetch a towel, but her phone alerted her to a text message. Ava was dismayed when she read the text message, prompting her to make a phone call. Patient 6 listened as Ava talked to someone about the sale of Derek Wells Media. After the call, Ava grumbled that her brother had dismantled his life and had sold his only asset to Jason Morgan.
At Sonny's house, Carly advised Sonny that they couldn't be too careful with Oscar and Josslyn, and she wanted to set limits. Sonny thought they should give the young couple space. He was afraid that Josslyn would rebel if they pressed her. "Leave her alone for me," Sonny implored. Carly planned on forcing herself on Oscar's mother. She thought it was time that they met, though Sonny was concerned about the woman's possible reaction to the fact that Sonny made his living as a mobster.
Outside on the patio, Oscar and Josslyn were supposed to be doing homework, but Josslyn thought it was time to search for Oscar's father. She asked Oscar questions, though Oscar stated that his mother wouldn't want him to do a search. Just as the couple was about to share a kiss, Carly popped outside to check up on them.
Carly began to ply Oscar with her own questions about his mother, and she asked him to set up a meeting so the two women could finally meet each other. Oscar insisted that his mother, who was a doctor, had little free time. Carly headed back inside, and Josslyn sighed. Her mother was impossible, and Carly wouldn't drop it, she declared. Oscar responded that his mother would be too busy.
Back inside the house, Carly noted that Oscar had obviously been trying to avoid a meeting. She was certain that she would get along with Oscar's mother. Sonny announced that he was not interested in meeting the woman, and he just wanted to manage the situation. He felt that Josslyn would inevitably get hurt in the relationship. Carly was appalled and said that it was "friend dating," not a relationship.
Josslyn produced her laptop and asked for Oscar's mother's name. He told her Kim Nero, and Josslyn began to search. She and Oscar were able to narrow it down to the right person by looking at related names and addresses in San Diego, where Kim had lived. Josslyn used her emergency only credit card to pay for additional details, much to Oscar's chagrin. Josslyn advised him that it was "easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Your past is now paid for."
Josslyn continued to search, but they were at a dead end. There was no mention of anyone that might have been Oscar's dad. Josslyn suggested that they comb through Oscar's apartment, as there was liable to be something with his father's name on it that they'd be able to use. She added that she'd always been great at finding her Christmas gifts without anyone knowing. Oscar and Josslyn went inside to let her parents know they were heading to the library. Carly insisted that she drive them and pick them up. She urged Oscar to text his mother for some dates. Josslyn could only give Sonny an irritated look.
Finn met with Cassandra at General Hospital in order to have her tests run. She spotted Anna down the hall and told Finn "Your lover is here." The fake lovers greeted each other awkwardly as Anna explained that she was at the hospital for treatment of a blood condition. Cassandra thought that it must have been hours since the couple had woken up in bed together, and she departed. Felicia was near and overheard the conversation. She raced over and excitedly asked if the pair was dating.
Anna uneasily explained that it was all new but Felicia was happy to see it. She ordered Finn to treat Anna right. She departed for an appointment of her own, and Finn expressed his dismay that they would have to fool everyone in town after that. Anna pulled Finn aside and told him about the latest headlines that opioids had resulted in many deaths. She believed that Cassandra had had a hand in it, and she really wanted Finn to work with her instead of fighting her. Felicia returned after her appointment and invited Anna and Finn on a double date with her and Mac. "Fun!" Anna exclaimed. Finn dryly called it an understatement.
Betsy arrived home and was surprised to see Franco sitting in her living room. He felt that she'd been avoiding him, which was why he had decided to just show up. He had not been able to locate a death certificate for Andrew, and he wanted the truth for his peace of mind. At first, Betsy insisted that she had given him the true story previously, but Franco had his doubts. He asked if Andrew might still be alive.
Betsy began to list the various reasons why a death certificate might be missing, but Franco wasn't buying it. He begged her for the truth again and asked that she take him to Andrew's grave. He was certain that his mother would have visited it. Betsy began to talk about the early days when the boys had been young, and she told him that she was upset that he was forcing her to tell the truth. She pleaded with him to stop, but Franco was passionate. Andrew had been in his thoughts, dreams, and nightmares. He hadn't been able to focus.
Finally, Betsy admitted that Andrew hadn't died and, in fact, might even still be alive. She had given him up, and she hoped to see him again one day to know that he was okay. She missed him but had had to let him go. She ordered Franco to leave her alone, but Franco refused. Betsy remembered the day she'd found Andrew at the bottom of the basement stairs, broken and bleeding. She'd heard him screaming, and he'd been close to death. Franco asked what had caused the boy to fall. "You did," she replied.
At the Crimson office, Valentin and Nina discussed Jason and Sam's purchase of Derek Wells Media. Nina thought that they should look for their own business to get involved with, as she expected to lose her job. Jason arrived, and after he and Valentin traded barbs, Valentin asked to speak to his wife outside. Nina vowed not to go down without a fight, as she'd made the magazine a success, and she loved it. Valentin agreed to let Nina handle it as she wished, and he left. He received a text message from Cassandra asking to meet.
Nina went back into the office, and Jason noted that Valentin hadn't looked happy. Nina agreed that he wasn't, but he supported her. Jason sang Nina's praises. She admitted that she'd had help from Maxie but had had to fire her for betraying her trust. "There's no coming back from that," Jason agreed. He wanted her advice, and Nina told him to find someone that he trusted and who knew the business. She had loved it. Jason made it clear that he wanted Nina to remain on board.
At Ava's condo, she went on about Julian's business being sold to Jason and Sam. Patient 6 asked to see a photo of Jason, and Ava managed to find the press release online that included a photo. Patient 6 was quite surprised, and Ava assumed that it was because he'd thought Jason to be dead. She gave him the background of Jason's shooting, disappearance, confinement by Helena, and eventual facial reconstruction. She added that Jason had had no memory after his accident, but Carly had figured out his true identity. She continued by telling of Jason's canceled wedding to Elizabeth and his remembrance of his one true love in Sam.
Ava wondered why Patient 6 was so interested in Jason, and she asked if he knew him. The mystery man had begun to wander around and spotted a framed photo of Avery. Ava explained that Avery was her daughter with Sonny. The man had recognized that the photo had been taken at Sonny's house and was astonished that Sonny was the child's father. He mentioned that they'd been friends, and he asked Ava to get a message to Sonny. He wrote it out and handed it to her. Ava confessed that Sonny hated her, and she didn't want to provoke him. Patient 6 advised her that Sonny would try to figure out the angle, and Patient 6 would take it from there. He thought it would show that Ava had meant it when she'd said she had wanted to be a better person.
After Ava left, Patient 6 picked up his money and guns and left.
Ava reached Sonny's place and handed him the note. Sonny was reluctant, but Ava announced that he might be missing something important.
Valentin met with Cassandra at the park and accused her of confronting him during their previous meeting. She replied that it had only been a kiss, and she wanted to renew their partnership, both in business and in bed. Valentin advised her that he was married to a good woman and had a family. There would be too much to risk if he was back in business with her. Cassandra called him noble and principled, and she assumed that he'd be running out of money. Her business was booming. Valentin disclosed that he had inherited much wealth from his father. He had quit the business while ahead.
Cassandra was insistent that her business was successful, but Valentin assured her that whatever sounded too good to be true most likely was. He wanted his daughter to be proud of him, and he couldn't live with himself if he ended up selling something that caused deaths. Cassandra reminded him that he had killed in the past when he'd needed to, and it hadn't bothered him. She thought that he felt safe when he was "dancing on the edge," and he would go mad if he kept his new and staid life. She expected him to change his mind.
At the tenth-floor nurses' station, Kevin overheard Deanna ask Griffin to visit a patient who had asked for a priest. Griffin hesitated then told Deanna that he would be happy to talk to the patient, but only as a physician because he'd left the priesthood. Deanna assured Griffin that it wasn't necessary because she was certain that the patient could wait until the hospital's chaplain was available. After Deanna walked way, Kevin cleared his throat and admitted that he'd heard what Griffin had said. Kevin realized that he might be overstepping, but Griffin told Kevin that it was fine.
Griffin admitted that he was somewhat conflicted, but Kevin promised that it was natural because he imagined it had been a difficult decision for Griffin. Griffin shared that he was at peace with his decision, but Kevin didn't believe him because, in his professional opinion, Griffin didn't seem like a man who was at peace. Kevin and Griffin found a quiet spot and sat down to talk. Kevin admitted that he admired Griffin because Griffin had juggled matters of heaven and earth as both a priest and a physician. Griffin acknowledged that he had enjoyed it, but there had been challenges, and he had reached a point where he'd had to make a choice.
As the two men talked, Griffin conceded that his future was a bit murky. Kevin was confident that Griffin would succeed in whatever path he chose, but he offered to be a sounding board if Griffin needed someone to talk to. Griffin appreciated the offer, but he was determined to figure things out for himself.
At Metro Court Restaurant, Dante and Lulu were enjoying a rare date night out. Dante kissed his wife as Laura walked up and laughingly told the couple to get a room. Lulu chuckled while Dante was unapologetic because he and Lulu seldom had an opportunity for a romantic dinner. Laura admitted that she hoped to join their ranks soon because Kevin might pop the question later that evening. Lulu took in her mother's appearance and realized that Laura had dressed up for the occasion. Laura smiled as she confessed that she had wanted to look nice.
Laura sat down and told Dante and Lulu about Kevin's proposal at Kelly's and her decision to turn him down. She promised that she loved Kevin, but it had felt like he'd done it out of pity. Laura assured Dante and Lulu that Kevin had understood her rejection, and he had promised her a proper proposal, but on his own terms. However, Laura claimed that she hadn't quite made up her mind if she would accept. Lulu saw through the lie and advised her mother to stop playing games and to accept Kevin's proposal so Kevin and Laura could get on with their happily ever after. Dante thought it might help for Spencer to get some good news.
Laura agreed then confessed that she hadn't been able to break the news about Ava to Spencer. She acknowledged that the engagement might cushion the blow. Moments later, Kevin walked up. He was curious if Dante and Lulu would be joining them for dinner, but Laura admitted that she had crashed Dante and Lulu's date. Dante invited Kevin and Laura to join them for a drink, so Kevin agreed, but only for one drink. After Kevin and Dante went to the bar, Lulu sensed that her mother was still playing games and cautioned Laura against it. Laura promised to take what Lulu had said under advisement then smiled as she asked Lulu to keep the camera ready because she wanted a picture of the special moment.
At the bar, Kevin admitted that he wanted a nice quiet dinner because he'd had a long day. Dante smiled knowingly then glanced at Laura. After drinks, Kevin and Laura went to their table while Dante and Lulu retreated to the bar. Laura talked about the revised menu, but Kevin assured her that he knew exactly what he wanted. Laura grinned. Later, Laura frowned with concern because she noticed that Kevin had barely touched his food. Kevin explained that he was distracted because a colleague had had some personal issues going on with his life.
Laura assumed that Kevin was referring to himself and misinterpreted what he was saying as part of a proposal. She grinned when he slid off his chair and got on bended knee -- to tie his shoe. Laura's smile vanished in an instant. "How could you?" she angrily asked. Kevin looked up at her with an innocent expression then glanced over his shoulder and saw Lulu standing at the bar, prepared to snap their picture. Kevin was disappointed that Lulu hadn't gotten a picture of Laura's expression because it had been priceless.
Kevin returned to his seat then reminded Laura that she had asked to be swept off her feet, and he had warned her that he would keep her in suspense. Laura accused him of making a fool of her, but he argued that she'd done it to herself. He was disappointed that she'd thought he would propose over dinner when she had asked for something spontaneous and romantic. Laura smiled because she realized that he was right. Kevin assured Laura that the proposal would be a surprise and completely worth it.
At Greystone Manor, Sonny ordered Ava to leave, but she warned him that he might miss out on something important if she left. Sonny assured her that he wanted nothing from her, but Ava pulled out the note that she'd been asked to deliver and told him that he would never know if that was true or not. Sonny looked at the folded note then snarled that he wasn't interested in her games. It didn't matter to him if she gave him the note, but Ava took a chance and tried to use the lure of the note to spend some time with Avery. Sonny refused then revealed that he knew that she had crashed Morgan's memorial service. Dejected, Ava implored Sonny not to turn their daughter against her, but Sonny assured her that it wouldn't be necessary because Avery would eventually see Ava for who she truly was.
Ava suggested that Sonny might not know her as well as he believed because she was capable of doing the right thing. She handed him the note then turned to leave. Sonny glanced at the note then demanded to know who had given it to her. Ava admitted that she had no idea what the man's name was, but she revealed that she had met him at the clinic in Russia. Sonny recalled Griffin telling him that Ava had sacrificed a treatment to help a patient. Ava was surprised that Griffin had shared the story with Sonny, but Sonny was curious why she'd agreed to deliver a message from a man in Russia.
Ava revealed that the patient had made his way to Port Charles then added that she didn't think the man intended Sonny any harm. Sonny wanted to know what the man looked like, but Ava was out of good deeds for the day and left. Sonny looked at the note. It read, "Sonny, meet me where you and Robin scattered Stone's ashes. Come alone, like the night you gave me $40 for a cab." Sonny frowned because only he and Jason knew about the incident outside of Luke's decades earlier.
Later, Ava arrived home and called out to her guest to let him know that she had delivered the note, but Patient 6 was gone. Ava found a note on the dining room table, thanking her for the clothes and the help. She set the note down when someone knocked on the door. It was Griffin. He asked if he could enter, but Ava told him that she couldn't decide. "I deserve that," he admitted.
Ava offered Griffin a martini, but he declined. She made one for herself as she conceded that she didn't blame him for not wanting a drink -- after his last mistake. Griffin tensed and reminded Ava that he didn't think their night together had been a mistake, and he hoped that she felt the same. Ava claimed that they had just been two lonely people looking for comfort, one an irredeemable sinner and the other a would-be saint. She referred to Griffin as Father, but he asked her not to. Ava wondered why, because she had accepted his sacred calling and respected the vows he continued to cling to.
"Not anymore," Griffin revealed. He told Ava about his decision to leave the priesthood and his talk with Father Corey. Griffin assured her that his faith was stronger than ever, but he was no longer a priest. Ava carefully asked if he was okay with being a doctor. He admitted that he had fought it for a long time, but he had realized that the priesthood was not for him. Ava was glad, but she was curious what that meant for them.
At Betsy's house, Betsy explained that it had been a miracle that Andrew had survived the fall down the basement steps because he had suffered a concussion and broken bones, but Franco wanted to know how Andrew had fallen. Betsy tried to sidestep the question, but he pushed for an answer until Betsy reluctantly revealed that Franco had pushed him. Shocked, Franco asked how she knew. She admitted that both Andrew and Franco had refused to say anything because they'd both been traumatized by the incident, but Franco realized that she had seen something in him that had made her think that he had pushed Andrew. Franco was horrified at the thought that he had tried to kill Andrew at such a young age because it had been before his brain tumor had manifested.
Betsy tearfully confessed that she had sent Andrew away to keep him safe, but Franco wondered why she hadn't sent Franco away instead. Betsy explained that as much as she had loved Andrew, she'd known that he would be okay, so she'd taken him to a foundling hospital outside of Port Charles. She'd rung the doorbell then instructed Andrew to stay put until someone opened the door. Betsy recalled that he had nodded solemnly as if to reassure her that he could handle it. She'd hidden out of sight and had watched Andrew until someone had retrieved him. Franco quietly asked if she had ever gone back to check on Andrew, but she admitted that she had thought it would be better not to.
"I'm so screwed up," Franco said in an agonized tone because he'd had the brother he'd longed for, and he'd been capable of hurting him.
In the park, Patient 6 ducked behind a wall when he heard a familiar voice. Moments later, Elizabeth and Jake entered the clearing. Jake was carrying a large carved pumpkin, and he was playing on his phone, so Elizabeth told him to put the phone away. Jake grumbled because she never told Cam to put his phone away, but she reminded Jake that Cam didn't need to be told because he was interested in other things around him. Patient 6 frowned when he overheard the exchange and peeked around the corner to look at the young boy. "Jake," Patient 6 whispered in a pained tone as he ducked back out of sight.
"Who's there?" Jake asked when he heard his name. Just then, Jason arrived. Jake happily greeted his father. Patient 6 frowned as Elizabeth told Jason about Jake's day and how their son had won the pumpkin carving contest. Jake asked if he could get a hot chocolate, so Elizabeth agreed if he bought one for each of his parents as well. Jake didn't notice Patient 6 as he ran past the wall to fetch the hot chocolate from a nearby vendor, but Patient 6's thoughts drifted to when Jason had faced a distraught Elizabeth in the hospital and had asked her to donate one of their son's kidneys to Josslyn.
Elizabeth had slapped Jason and angrily accused him of being a "selfish bastard" because he had chosen not to be Jake's father just like he had chosen not to be with her. She'd reminded him that he had walked away from them and had never looked back, so she and Lucky had raised Jake, and they were the ones who had been left with a hole in their lives.
On the other side of the wall, Elizabeth talked to Jason about his decision to buy Derek Wells Media. He was surprised that she knew, but she explained that the news was all over social media. Jason wondered if Franco knew, but Elizabeth had no idea because she and Franco had only touched base briefly that afternoon. Jason seized the opportunity to ask Elizabeth about what she and Franco had wanted to tell him the other day. He warned her that he knew it hadn't been about signing a permission slip for Jake's field trip. Elizabeth was evasive, but Jason wondered if it had had anything to do with Franco's visit when Jason had been in the hospital.
Elizabeth was spared from having to answer when Jake returned and announced that he had been right; someone had called out his name. Concerned, Jason asked what Jake was talking about, so Jake pointed to the brick wall where he'd seen a man lurking. Jake assured his mother that it was okay because something about the man had made Jake feel safe. Jason went to investigate, but Patient 6 had vanished. Moments later, Jason's phone rang. It was Sonny calling to ask Jason to stop by because it was important, but he refused to elaborate.
After Jason ended the call, Franco arrived. Jason decided that it was his cue to leave. Jake said goodbye to his father then asked if he could play with some friends he'd seen in the park, but Elizabeth remained uneasy about the man her son had seen and instructed Jake to remain within eyesight. Jake scampered off while Franco and Elizabeth sat down to talk. She warned him that Jason had been asking questions about what they had wanted to tell Jason the other day at the hospital. Elizabeth thought it was time to tell Jason about his twin brother, but Franco blurted out that the boy in the picture hadn't been Jason's twin.
According to Franco, he'd paid Betsy a visit because he'd been certain that his mother had lied about Andrew. He claimed that Betsy had finally confessed the truth -- Jason had never had a twin, and the boy in the photo with Franco hadn't been any relation to Jason. Franco added that it had been for the best that they hadn't told Jason about Andrew.
At Greystone Manor, Sonny showed Jason the note that a stranger had given Ava. Jason frowned because it contained details that only he and Sonny had known. Sonny filled Jason in about the mysterious phone call from Russia and what Ava had told him about the patient she had helped. Jason suggested that it might be linked to Petrov, but Sonny doubted it. Sonny decided to go to the rendezvous point, but Jason objected because he suspected that it was a trap.
Meanwhile, Patient 6 waited for Sonny on the footbridge.
Klein yelled at his two henchmen for letting Patient 6 get away, especially with their guns and money. One of the men explained that Patient 6 had caught them off guard, but they would know what to expect "next time." Klein hoped there would be a next time, as the patient knew the city better than all of them. He needed Patient 6 stopped before he reached his "dangerous friends," as his client wouldn't be happy. Klein suggested that they "switch tactics."
A short while later, one of the henchmen was gone, and Klein discussed with the other man how to get ahead of Patient 6. He thought it would work to take someone the patient cared about and "wait for him to show."
Olivia and Ned arrived at ELQ, wishing they were still on their Italian honeymoon. Olivia promised to return after she picked up Leo's prescription. They shared a kiss, and she left. Ned eyed Michael's office door.
In his office, Michael was on the phone, talking about a deal. There was static on the call, making it impossible to hear, so Michael promised to talk to the person at another time. As he hung up, there was a knock on the door, and Ned entered. Michael welcomed his kin back to the office after a long honeymoon. Ned talked about his ideas for new programs that would involve cutting back on some of Michael's green initiatives. He believed that the company was neglecting other good opportunities. Michael didn't like the idea, but Ned gently told Michael that he'd have to learn when to cut his losses. Michael had a board meeting at the hospital, so he left.
At the hospital, Monica was on the phone when Olivia appeared. Monica ended her call to ask Olivia about the extravagant Halloween decorations around the Quartermaine estate. Olivia thought it would be something nice to do for Leo and for her and Monica's grandchildren. Monica wanted to talk to Olivia about boundaries. She was happy that Olivia was comfortable, but Monica reminded Olivia that she was a guest in the house. Olivia reminded Monica that Alan had given her the house and run off.
A short while later, Michael entered the hospital and found Monica. He commented on Jason's surprise announcement. Monica replied that she was just happy he'd found something stable. Monica's phone rang, and she answered it to the secretary of the hospital board. She heard that the meeting was canceled, but she was forced to hang up due to static on the line. She explained the week-long problem to Michael, who offered to take it to the technology department at ELQ.
Olivia returned to ELQ, and Ned filled her in on his short and disappointing meeting with Michael. He figured he'd have to, as a former CEO, make peace with taking orders from his "20-something cousin." Olivia demanded to know why he would make peace with something like that. Ned wondered what was wrong, and she admitted to projecting. She filled Ned in on her conversation with Monica. She thought that they both needed to assert themselves, and Ned needed to "take back what's yours."
Griffin revealed to Ava that he'd left the priesthood. She expressed happiness for him, as long as he was at peace, but she wondered what that meant for them. Griffin didn't know, and he admitted that the only real commitment he'd made in his life had been to the church. She agreed that it was probably wise for him not to jump into a relationship and told him that there were no hard feelings. While he knew it would be easier to walk away, he admitted that all he wanted to do was kiss her.
Ava told Griffin that he'd made her feel wanted when she hadn't felt like she deserved it, but she suggested that they'd been using each other to "feel alive." She told him not to stop from kissing her "on my account," and they shared a passionate kiss. The broke apart and agreed that they should go no further while "sorting things out." They kissed again and made their way to the couch while undressing each other.
Later, Ava and Griffin sat on the floor under a blanket. He put his arm her around and confided that it had been better and "different than last time." They kissed, and she reminded him that it was getting late. She added that him staying over would imply a commitment, and he tried to hide his disappointment. They got dressed, and he figured he would get up early the next morning to "figure out the logistics of my new life."
Griffin thanked Ava for helping him figure out what he really wanted. He offered to call her, and she reminded him that they were keeping it casual. They said goodnight, and he left. On opposite sides of the door, both smiled.
Maxie arrived at Sam's, and she was borderline offended that Sam hadn't told her about buying Derek Wells Media. "Anything else I should know?" she wondered. Maxie had heard about the party and had taken the liberty of getting Sam a dress. Sam called Maxie a lifesaver and went to try the dress on. Since Maxie had done Sam a favor, she asked for one in return. She wondered if Sam or Jason could order Nina to rehire her at Crimson. As she walked out in a beautiful blue dress, Sam told Maxie that Crimson operated autonomously.
Noticing Sam's leather jacket, Maxie suggested that, with Sam as the head of a major media company, it was time to retire the jacket. Sam refused to get rid of the jacket, but she did promise to ask Jason about talking to Nina. Maxie complained to Sam about all the obnoxious visits to her apartment from Man Landers fans. Sam advised Maxie to embrace the attention. "You're a genius!" Maxie exclaimed. Maxie told Sam to hang the dress up immediately to avoid wrinkles, and she ran out of the apartment.
A short while later, Sam was dressed. As she picked up the jacket and put it on, one of Klein's henchmen prepared to break into her home.
At the hospital, Amy was just finishing up a phone call when Nathan approached her. She excitedly divulged that the rest of the book advance had arrived, so all of Chet's treatments were covered. Speaking of Man Landers, Nathan told her that he believed it was time to shut down the blog. He explained that it was hard on Maxie, and he refused to put his marriage on the line. Amy thanked him for going as far as he had. "Some things aren't meant to last," she said with a tearful smile.
Nathan hoped that Amy would continue writing, because she was good at it. She had to get back to work, but she promised to call Quinn the next day. Nathan walked away and found Maxie. He told her that he had news she would enjoy, but she would have to wait for it. Maxie informed him that she also had news, but then he would have to wait as well. Amy watched sadly as the happy couple got into the elevator.
Jason refused to let Sonny go to the footbridge alone, because he believed it was a trap.
At the footbridge, Patient 6 quietly hoped Sonny would meet him. He saw headlights approaching and hid in the bushes. He watched as Sonny walked onto the bridge with a gun drawn. The patient was about to reveal himself when he saw Jason follow Sonny onto the bridge. Sonny observed that no one else was there. Patient 6 turned to walk away, but there was a man standing behind him, pointing a gun to the patient's head.
The man demanded that Patient 6 put his hands on his head. The patient lunged at the man, and they fought over the gun. The patient finally overpowered the man, but there was a shot fired as they struggled over the gun. As the patient pointed the gun at the man, who revealed himself to be one of Sonny's guards, Jason ordered Sonny to go back to the car. When Sonny was gone, Jason began to investigate. He went into the bushes and found the guard, clearly beaten up. The guard explained that a guy had jumped him, but he wondered why the man had let him go.
When Sonny, Jason, and the guards were gone, Patient 6 stood on the bridge. He looked out at the water, thinking about all he'd seen and learned since he'd arrived in Port Charles.
Jason and Sonny returned to Sonny's house and discussed the incident. Sonny thought that, if killing him had been the goal, he could have easily been taken out while on the bridge. Michael entered the house and congratulated Jason on buying Derek Wells Media. He told Sonny about his and Monica's phones being plagued by static for a week or so. ELQ's technology department had found spy software on both phones.
Sonny wanted Brick to look at the phones, as Brick believed that someone was targeting him. Michael wondered why Monica's phone would be tapped if that was the case. Jason blurted out, "Sonny's not the target. I am."
