Antonio arrived at Keri's mom's house and knocked. Keri knew it had to be Antonio and urged her mother to answer the door. Even though she was anxious to meet Antonio, she decided it would be best to leave the two alone, as they had a lot to discuss. Keri's mother headed over to Rachel's house.
Impersonating Dr. Rae Cummings, Lindsay went on a fact-finding mission, She was at the hospital in Africa where Troy had worked. Lindsay found a nurse who claimed she knew Troy better than anyone else. The nurse told her Dr. MacIver was charming and generous. Lindsay wanted to know about his wife. That made the nurse suspicious, and she wanted to know why Lindsay would need that information.
Lindsay explained she was there to evaluate Troy as a candidate for a job. When the nurse would not answer her questions, Lindsay wanted to know if anyone else knew Troy. The nurse explained that there was a high turnover rate at the hospital, and no one knew Troy better than she did. The nurse then left. Luckily for Lindsay, a stranger had heard her speaking with the nurse and told her he could help her. He had known Joanna very well.
Todd admitted to Téa he had been looking at pictures of Blair. He vehemently denied he still had feelings for Blair when Téa questioned if he was still in love with Blair. He missed his kids. Todd decided he and Téa needed to leave that day. Téa was very uneasy about leaving with the serious chances they would be taking.
Todd had to leave. He liked being with Téa, but he needed to see his kids. There was no guarantee they would survive another six months on the island, Todd thought. In order to see his kids again, they needed to try. Téa wondered if maybe it was about Blair too.
Sam demanded to know if Blair still loved Todd. A very angry Blair denied any love for Todd and proceeded to list all the nasty things he had done to her and her family. Sam told Blair she had told him all he needed to know. He knew Blair still loved Todd. While Blair was looking like she was ready to explode, Sam would not let up about Todd.
Blair told Sam he was "so out of line." She asked if he remembered what Todd had done to her. Sam wondered aloud if she was that down on Todd because he had not contacted Jack and Starr. At the boiling point, Blair threatened to fire Sam. Sam kept pushing, and Blair screamed, "You are fired!" Sam blamed it on her drinking.
Sam's comment incensed Blair past the point of no return. She handed over her keys and yelled at him to "get the hell out of here." "Unforgettable" began to play, and Blair tried to get them to stop the song. They couldn't, and Blair flashed back through her times with Todd. She started to cry, paid her tab, and left.
Keri and Antonio made up. Keri promised R.J. would never get between them again. She hoped Antonio would like her mom. Meanwhile, over at Rachel's, Keri's mom was telling Rachel about the stranger who'd helped her. She hadn't even gotten his name. Rachel asked if she was sure she wasn't curious what Keri's fiancé was like. Keri's mom decided she would go over and check him out. As she was going out the door, she found the newspaper. She got a frantic look and demanded to know if it was that day's paper.
Todd assured Téa it was about the kids. Ross entered with fish, and when he found out what the plan was, he demanded Téa stay on the island with him. Todd could not believe Ross had put doubts in Téa's mind. Téa stated she would go if she didn't think Blair was involved in his decision.
Nora walked up behind Troy and tried to surprise him. She explained she had been able to get home early and had wanted to see him. After they made love, Troy gave Nora a necklace.
Blair went home to Jack. A tearful Blair admitted to Jack she loved Todd.
Téa cried for Todd to be truthful to himself and to her. Todd admitted he still loved Blair.
Sam made an offer to Blair to help find Todd. They discussed the fact that she still loved Todd, but Blair suggested that love might not be enough. Sam just happened to have the divorce papers that Blair had been reluctant to sign at her office with him. Blair signed them and whispered to herself, "Goodbye, Todd."
Jen was dismayed that her pregnancy test was negative but considered it might be too soon. She saved the second test in the box for later. She and Cristian went to Fall Dance at the university. When they arrived, Jen approached Chad and Natalie and apologized for not being able to double-date with them. The boys went for drinks, and Jen told a somber Natalie a fictitious story of lovemaking making them late.
Jen spent most of the dance pouring on thick public displays of affection, mauling Cristian. Natalie pined with a long face. Rex tried to comfort her, but she dismissed him and told him to go have fun. Then she bolted from the room. Cristian caught up to her later, and she tearfully revealed that she was in love with him.
Shawna was bored with the "soft drinks" scene at the college dance and wanted to go clubbing. Rex lied to Jessica about having to leave the dance and go to work to earn book money. Jessica sympathetically said he'd been working too hard and gave him the so-called book money to take the night off as Shawna gleefully looked on during the transaction.
Seth confronted Rex again afterwards and point-blank told him that he knew Rex was using Jessica. Seth threatened Rex if he hurt her. Rex and Shawna decided to depart with Jessica's money to hit the clubs. Seth tried to tell Jessica what Rex was doing, but Jessica wouldn't hear of it. He was her brother. Rex overheard Seth telling Chad that he would go to Michigan to check out Rex's past.
In his loft, Troy told Nora that he had thrown his African amulet away. He was visibly packing away his African artifacts. Troy started to tell his story of Africa to Nora, explaining that he had been "too driven" and had forced someone "close" to him to make sacrifices for his ambitions to make a difference in the world. Nora counseled him to accept his mistakes as she had accepted her own and face the fact that there would be future mistakes in everyone's lives. They snuggled on the balcony, rejoicing that Lindsay was very likely leaving Llanview for good.
In Africa, Lindsay talked up Gordy the tour guide at the Mazabaka Clinic about Troy's secret wife. He asked if Lindsay was a friend of Troy's, and she replied she was more like "a bitter enemy." He told her she was a "good judge of character" and gave Lindsay an earful about the former Mrs. Troy MacIver, Joanna, including the fights she'd had with her husband and that she was dead. Gordy intimated that Troy should have her death on his conscience. He told Lindsay the details of her death. Lindsay was horrified and then delighted as she said out loud to herself, "Oh, Troy, I got you."
Somewhere in the South Pacific, in the bunker, after discussing the fact that Todd was still in love with his wife, Blair, Téa and Todd argued about his leaving at that time. Téa insisted it was for Todd's safety, but Todd had to try to get to his family. Ross advised Todd to go immediately, if at all, due to a storm he had seen on the horizon. Ross explained that if Todd could get right behind it, he could expect clear weather for a few days. Téa tearfully let him go.
Ross gave Todd some much-needed rafting advice and provisions but still insisted it would be dangerous. Todd sincerely thanked him. Téa went to the shore to say one last goodbye and gave Todd the photo of his family, pasted back together to include Blair and his children. Todd smiled and said, "See you around, Delgado." He and Ross plunged the raft into the water, and Todd left. Ross and Téa watched him paddle out to sea.
Keri comforted Antonio over his upcoming hearing. She just wanted him to know that she believed in him. As they awaited Liz's return, Keri dug out a photo album so that Antonio could see a picture of her mom. He received a phone call summoning him back to Llanview immediately for the closed hearing with Internal Affairs. He wanted Keri to stay with her mother because she needed her more. They declared their love for each other.
In the meantime, Liz was over at Rachel's place and made a strange phone call. Rachel could see that she was upset but was unable to find out anything. By the time Liz returned, Antonio was gone. She claimed to be upset again over losing her husband, but once she convinced Keri to pack and return to Llanview, she made another phone call. Keri returned in time to hear Liz mention that she needed the procedure done as soon as possible and needed a surrogate. She pleaded with them not to change their mind and hung up abruptly when she saw Keri. The damage was done -- Keri wanted to know if she was pregnant.
Jen learned that Natalie had left the dance, and Shawna taunted Jen, telling her that Natalie was probably with Cristian. No, Cristian was with his brother, Jen retorted. Cristian found a somewhat hysterical Natalie, who admitted that she loved him and couldn't deal with it anymore. She tried to let him off the hook gracefully so that he wouldn't feel obligated to her, but to her shock, he admitted to having the same feelings about her.
Cristian announced that things had changed with both Jen and Natalie. He'd known for sure when he'd kissed her. He should have told her sooner, he apologized, while Natalie had assumed that he'd regretted every kiss. Rex overheard Seth telling Chad that he was off to Michigan to dig up dirt on Rex. Suddenly, Rex decided to give a surprised Jessica back the money she had given him. He then ditched Shawna when he spied Seth posting a notice on the bulletin board for a ride.
Max arrived home to a Roxy with a British accent. He was not thrilled to learn that she was trying to sound like Gabrielle to impress him. When that didn't work, she tried to sound like Blair, to no avail. He admitted that he had loved someone once, and that person had been really good. He couldn't stand the other two women, but he'd pick them anytime over her, he spat. She made him sick and was like a bad dream.
Roxy felt that she was good too -- she braked for animals and was a good mother who loved her kids. As if on cue, Rex dashed in, much to his mother's chagrin. She tried to get rid of him while Max commented on her good mother statement. Rex wanted Roxy's help; Seth was off to see his Aunt Corrine, and Rex was worried. He was concerned what would happen if Corrine divulged the truth about why Roxy had taken him and not Natalie.
Cristian admitted he cared for Jen and didn't want to hurt her, but he was no longer in love with her. He'd have to tell her because it was not fair to her. Natalie knew just how it felt to love someone who didn't return that love. Both felt bad but decided that no one was to blame. Jen had gone out of her way to befriend her, Natalie said. Jen spied on them nearby and heard the pair admit their love for each other.
Gabby awaited Al's arrival, and he instantly berated his mother for betraying him. Bo wondered if he thought his mother had turned him in. The commissioner confirmed that Gabby had only tried to protect him and had risked her own freedom at the same time because Bo had seen her dispose of the evidence. He cared for Gabby, Bo admitted, and would not arrest Al simply because the evidence was gone.
Bo said he would arrest Al later if something turned up, but in the meantime, he wanted Al to perform 100 hours of community service under his supervision and to seek help from a qualified mental health professional. Al quickly agreed to the unofficial plea bargain while Bo warned that he'd better be good -- or else. He also suggested that Al let go of his obsession with Jen. Al apologized to his mom, who thanked Bo for all he'd done.
Jessica danced with Seth, who told her he had to go away for a few days to take care of something.
Antonio was at his apartment, looking at the engagement ring for Keri, when his mom arrived to welcome him home. She told him her friend from church had seen him at a roadside motel with some woman. Antonio thought to himself about the woman.
Keri was asking her mom if she was pregnant, and she said, "Yes, well, I don't know." She seemed very upset.
Jessica and Seth were talking about him going away, and she asked him if it had anything to do with Rex. He didn't want to tell her that it was because of Rex.
Rex was talking to Roxy about "the secret." He asked her, "What do you think Natalie would do if she knew what you really did and why Rex had to go live with his aunt."
Cristian told Natalie how he had to find a way to make Jen understand that he was in love with Natalie, while Jen listened from the bushes. Jen picked up an axe hammer and was heading toward them as they kissed. Natalie jumped up and said, "Did you hear something?" They decided it was probably the wind, as Jen dropped the hammer and ran away. Natalie was just worried something would wreck what they had just found.
Cristian said he needed to go find Jen and tell her, as she deserved to know the truth as soon as possible. Natalie said not to worry about her, just to tell Jen. Cristian said he wanted to be free to love her. She felt she couldn't help him and wished she could, but he told her she had helped by admitting she loved him. He said he had felt lost and all alone, then when he had seen her out there and she'd said she loved him, it had made him very happy. They kissed again.
Antonio was explaining that the woman he had been seen with had had a broken-down car, and he had been helping her. He told her that he and Keri were back together, and nobody would get between them again -- not even R.J. They sat down for him to explain. He was very happy that they were back together, and he explained why she was still in Chicago because of her stepfather's death. Carlotta was happy for him, but she was still concerned about the hearing from the shooting. She wanted to know what she could do to help. He told her the review was that night and to keep him in her prayers because he could handle just about anything as long as he had Keri.
Liz was trying to explain about how she and Steve had always wanted another child, and Keri said, "Because of your heart condition, that is why you never got pregnant before." She said that was why they'd found a surrogate, and the plan was to just transfer the embryo once she found she was pregnant and hope it worked. She said they had been working with the surrogate for months, and so far nothing had happened. Then he'd died, and she'd sort of forgotten about it, but that night she had seen the date and realized she might be pregnant. She said she just felt she was. Keri said, "Then you and Steve were together right before he died?" She replied, as she remembered being with Antonio, that it was more complicated than that.
Seth was trying not to tell Jessica why he was going out of town, and she said she hoped it wasn't about Rex. He said, "It isn't that I don't like him. I just don't trust him, and I think he is using you." She asked why he would give back the money that he'd borrowed from her if he were using her. Seth replied, "There is a lot about Rex we don't know".
Roxy told Rex that she didn't care about Natalie, and Rex said, "I am your real son, and I found out a lot about you and dear old dad from Aunt Corrine, and what I didn't find out, I discovered on my own, looking at papers." Rex added, "I just turned out like my mom and I am a lot smarter than you. I am going to get the Buchanan money. I can't let Seth go to Michigan and talk to Aunt Corrine."
Rex told Roxy she had to help him or be very, very sorry. She said she didn't have to help him, as she was Mrs. Max Holden, and no one could touch her. Rex said "Can being Mrs. Max Holden keep you out of prison?" "Do you think Aunt Corrine will just tell him about me?" Roxy asked. She looked shocked.
Antonio told his mom that he was guilty. Ben Davidson was in a coma because of him, and he could not ever forget it. He had lost his cool and hadn't been professional. He knew it had been an accident, but he couldn't forget it. He would have to face Viki, and it would not be easy. She told him he could do it; he was strong, and with God's help, he could do it. She added that taking away his badge would not get Ben back. He was Bo's right hand man, and Antonio said that it might just happen as R.J. walked in and said, "That is the best thing for everyone!"
Cristian was feeling bad about how he was going to have to hurt Jen, and Natalie asked if maybe Jen already knew. Cristian said she didn't but that when it was over, he would need to see Natalie, as he would need her. He was very happy being with her and said he would need to be together with her and hear her say she loved him. He said that when he was with her, he knew everything would be all right. He said once he told Jen, he would find her, even though it might take him awhile.
Natalie told Cristian that she would wait for him on the terrace, and she would wait, as she knew those things took time. She said she would wait forever if she had to. They kissed goodbye, and he left. Jen was back at the apartment, freaking about what she had just seen and heard. She asked, "How can they do this to me, and Antonio being so noble, and now I'm not even pregnant!" She saw the pregnancy test kit and held it with a smile.
Jessica was talking to her mom on the phone and reported there was no change in Ben; she was upset, saying that he might never wake up. Her mom was doing well in her therapy and was praying that she would be okay. She was still wondering why Niki had returned after so many years. Seth told Jessica the doctors would make her all right again, and she would be back again soon. She said she couldn't imagine her life without her.
Jessica told Seth how she'd thought her life had been over when she'd discovered about being switched, but she said that she still had her mom, brothers, and her life. She said she was being "such an idiot" thinking she could have had a relationship with her "biological mom." Seth told her not to beat up herself; she had tried to have a relationship with her, but Roxy had blown it. She said at least Rex wasn't anything like Roxy, and maybe he was the silver lining she was looking for.
Rex was telling Roxy how he knew all about what she had done. He said he wasn't talking about what she had done in Llanview. It was something she had done a long time before. He admitted she hadn't done it alone because his dad had helped. She said, "I didn't do anything to Natalie," and he replied, "It isn't what you did to Natalie. It is what you did to Jessica a long time ago. The statute of limitations hasn't expired. It wasn't that long ago."
R.J. was giving Antonio a hard time about the shooting and the hearing. Carlotta defended him, but Antonio said he would like to talk to R.J. alone. Antonio told R.J. he was ready to take whatever internal affairs decided and also not to worry about Keri, as they were back together. R.J. didn't believe him and said Keri was not even in Llanview. Antonio replied, "She is in Chicago, with her mom." R.J. was stunned.
Liz and Keri were still talking about her possibly being pregnant, and Keri was trying to get answers. She asked her mom if it was just an accident that she might be because they wouldn't have gone to Africa, as they had to be close to the surrogate mother when she conceived. She said the surrogate had fallen through, and Keri told her, "Mom, you can't carry this baby. You could die." She replied, "Yes, I will do it. I have to."
Keri said Liz wasn't thinking clearly and that the doctors had told her that because of her heart condition, she couldn't carry a child. Keri added that Steve would not have wanted her to. Keri asked, "Mom, why are you doing this?" Liz said, "You know why more than anybody else," and Keri replied, "Yes, Yes, I do."
Seth was leaving for work, and he promised to talk to Jessica the next morning before he did anything. He left, saying to himself, "Tomorrow, you will have to know why I am checking out your brother, and I will tell you exactly why I don't trust Rex."
Rex said that he knew about Jessica, when she had been a baby -- and he meant before Allison had entered the picture. He knew what Roxy had done to her. Just then, Jessica called him on his cell phone, and as he said, "Oh Jessica, we were just talking about you," Roxy hung up the phone.
Natalie entered the house and told Jessica about how happy she was, while Cristian walked in the door of his apartment. He told Jen he had been looking everywhere for her, and she asked about Antonio and whether he had been happy to see him. He said that wasn't exactly why he'd left. She told that she had been all alone, which was why she'd left the student union. He apologized about leaving her alone, and she said, "I know you wouldn't leave me alone unless you had a really good reason, and I know what that reason is."
Antonio told R.J. about flying to Chicago and seeing Keri, but R.J. didn't believe him. Antonio said, "It is true. Go ask Keri yourself." He told R.J. that he knew he'd helped Lindsay escape and that he might lose his badge, but at least he would have a clear conscience when it was over. Antonio said that they couldn't take Keri, as she would be with him "now and forever," and there was nothing that R.J. or anyone else could do to destroy that.
Keri said she remembered when her mom had lost her little sister right after she had been born. They hugged each other.
Rex was still ragging on Roxy and said, "I know everything. You stole Jessica when she was a baby. What will happen when Jessica finds she still doesn't know who her biological mother is, huh Mom, when she finds out that you didn't give birth to her at all?"
Natalie was telling Jessica about being in love, and she was bubbly and happy, going on and on as Jessica asked, "In love with who?"
Jen said, "I know why you left. You had to be sure Natalie was okay, so don't worry about it. Friends do that." Cristian said, "There is more to it, and there is something I need to tell you." She said, "Me first, Cristian. The most wonderful thing has happened -- I'm pregnant!" Cristian was stunned.
Bo was in the midst of meeting with a robbery victim from near Centerville when Antonio entered the office. He excused himself; however, the proprietor of the motel where he'd spent the night with the woman who'd had car trouble recognized him. The suspended detective was flooded with memories of that life-changing encounter. The motel owner was agitated his guest hadn't revealed he was a cop, since one of the robberies had occurred before his arrival and another just after he'd left the next morning. Nervously, Antonio explained he had been outside the area of his jurisdiction.
The commissioner promised the motel owner that he would check into allegations that the person involved in the crimes might be a former employee who resided in Llanview. Seeing the awkwardness Antonio was bathed in, Bo intervened, asking the complainant to keep the detective's presence in his establishment secret, as he was involved in deep undercover work. The man agreed. Before the pair could talk any further, Hank walked in, inquiring about the Internal Affairs hearing. Bo replied that not all the committee members had arrived. The D.A. left to check on the start time of the meeting.
The surrogate mother having bailed on her, Liz divulged to Keri her plans to keep her unborn child, carrying it to full term on her own. Her daughter vociferously objected to the idea, concerned her mother might be placing her health in danger, since Liz's heart might not be strong enough to sustain the vigor of another pregnancy. Years before, she had lost a baby girl directly after giving birth. Keri's mom would like her daughter to cast aside all worries and be happy about the prospect of welcoming a brother or sister into the world, a child belonging to Steve.
Unable to comply with her mom's wishes, Keri volunteered to be the host for the fetus. Liz emphatically refused the generous offer, worried about the strain it might place on Keri and Antonio's relationship. The woman's mind wandered to the night of passion she'd shared with the sexy man, whom she couldn't get out of her head. Keri interrupted her mother's memories, conveying her fiancé would gladly agree to the arrangement.
Before Liz could object any further, Keri phoned Antonio. She discovered the hearing concerning Ben's shooting had begun and left an urgent message for Antonio to get back to her. Having done that, Keri and her mom readied themselves to leave for the hospital, as the window of opportunity to follow through with the procedure was closing.
Natalie shared with Jessica the news that she and Cristian were in love. Jessica reacted with total disbelief. She inquired if Cristian dumping Jen was a product of Jen's own design. Natalie answered that there wasn't any plan to get rid of Cristian's girlfriend. Her sister reasoned she might be mistaking love for friendship that had been displayed during the time Cristian had stood by her. Jessica further offered that Cristian wouldn't break Jen's heart.
Natalie retorted that Jessica was responding out of jealousy, and Cristian had promised to visit her after breaking it off with Jennifer. Before leaving, Jessica counseled her sister that the meeting was not going to happen, cautioning she would grow old alone, should she continue with the same pattern of attracting men. Natalie awaited Cristian's arrival alone.
Armed with the information she had so desperately been seeking about Troy's life in Africa with his wife Joanna, Lindsay was en route to Llanview.
Cristian was reeling after learning that Jen was pregnant. He found the news unbelievable, since they had been careful. Jen attempted to convince him that they should greet the unexpected news with joy. He left the room to collect himself, needing, he said, to splash water on his face. In his absence, Jen mused out loud that he and Natalie would pay for betraying her.
Lindsay arrived at the loft, announcing she was back in Llanview to stay. Miami, she explained, wasn't all she'd hoped it would be. She quickly left, eager to tell Troy the same news about her change of heart. Cristian questioned Jen's veracity about them having conceived a child, since the pregnancy test he'd found while in the bathroom was negative. She scrambled to explain his suspicions away, producing a second test that "showed" a positive result. Still not convinced, he pointed out the result might be a false positive. After all, it had only been the year before that she had thought they were having a baby.
Eager to put the question to rest, Jen insisted she and Cristian go to the hospital so that she could have a blood test. Just then, Lindsay returned. She sensed that she was interrupting something. Cristian agreed and asked her to leave. Jennifer walked Lindsay out to the hall. She said her mom would be proud of how much she had learned from Lindsay.
Cristian was ready to usher his girlfriend to the hospital. She tried to blow it off, but Cristian was adamant. The girl stalled another moment, explaining that her purse was inside. She stated out loud that she had to be pregnant. Cristian inquired why she hadn't told Lindsay about the possibility of having a child. She replied that they should keep it between themselves for the moment.
Rex held the key to Roxy's freedom. He menaced her with the promise of doing jail time for what she had done to Jessica as a child. She blamed that on his father. It was all the same to him. Besides, she wasn't Jessica's biological mother. The scheming boy wasn't satisfied with extorting cash from her. He insisted she thwart Seth's plans to visit Corrine on a fact-finding mission, digging into Rex's past.
Roxy phoned Jessica's boyfriend and invited him to the house, using the pretext that she had a gift for her daughter. When Seth arrived, Rex was hiding on the stairwell. She gave Seth a family photograph of Jessica's grandparents on their wedding day. She mentioned that Corrine had mailed it to her before leaving the country. He wanted to know what her destination had been. Roxy claimed not to know.
Seth guessed that Rex had put Roxy up to the charade, and he inquired why. She denied any collusion with her son. Roxy offers to answer any questions he might have about Rex. He said he had tried at Rodi's, but she'd told him Aunt Corrine was the woman with the answers. He left, stating he was headed for Michigan.
Bo was holding a memorial plaque, dated 9-11-2002. Pictured was a cop by the name of John Perry. Bo was lamenting, to no one but himself, that he couldn't believe it had been a year. Antonio returned; he mentioned that the night he'd shot Ben stayed with him always. Bo advised that the memory of shooting someone didn't fade. He should know, having accidentally shot Sam. Bo wanted to learn more about the woman who'd helped him find his way home and restored his desire to be a cop.
Hank interrupted to report the hearing was about to begin. Bo and Antonio tried to read the decision of the committee members, but their faces gave away nothing. While awaiting the decision, Antonio confided to Bo about the woman he'd met, saying he hadn't mentioned her to Keri, whom he never wanted to hurt. The commissioner responded that the incident was none of anyone's business but Antonio's, promising to keep what he knew to himself. Hank returned, welcoming Antonio back to the police force and into his niece's life.
The message from Keri sat on a desk, unattended. Several police officers left the station for a robbery in progress.
Roxy refused to tell Rex who Jessica's biological mother was.
Rex vowed to stop Seth from finding out he was not Jessica's brother.
Natalie was on the patio, waiting for Cristian. She called out his name, thinking she heard him. It was only the wind.
Liz vacillated about telling Keri she was grateful to the stranger she'd met for giving her the gift of a child.
Jennifer emerged from an examining room in the hospital. She and Cristian were about to be told if the pregnancy test was positive.
