As Lindsey McKeon assumed the role of Marah Lewis last week, the furor over the firing of the actress to have previously played the role continued to grow.
As Soap Central reported last month, Laura Bell Bundy and Guiding Light have parted ways. Bundy, who joined the cast of GL in 1990, made her final on-air appearance on October 29th.
When the news of Bundy's impending departure broke, Bundy released a statement that seemed to imply that it was her decision to leave the show.
"There is a divine force pulling me in a new direction. I had a two-year contract. That two years is up, and it is the right time to continue discovering what life has in store for me," Bundy said in a statement.
However, at the recent Guiding Light Fan Club luncheon, some of Bundy's former castmates shed a new light on exactly why the actress left the show - she was fired.
Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne), who played Bundy's on-screen mom, hinted that she thought of her former on-screen daughter as a real daughter. Robert Newman (Joshua Lewis) echoed Zimmer's sentiments.
Billy Kay (Shayne Lewis) was the most vocal in expressing his feelings about Bundy's firing. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Kay said, "Whatever the reasons they have for letting her go, [those reasons] are totally wrong."
Bundy did not reveal any details of projects she might have on tap since her exit from GL.
